This November my daddy and I will not only take time to thank our veterans on Veterans Day, but we would like to dedicate our thoughts and prayers this entire month to our brave soldiers who fought in the Second Battle of Fallujah, exactly 11 years ago.
We will especially be thinking of our friend Sgt. Derick Lowe, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion / 1st Marines. We will say our prayers for those veterans who struggle daily with PTSD and do their best to live normal lives after having lived horrors of war that no civilian could even imagine, let alone understand. We will wish them courage in their daily personal battle, and hope they know that we care about them and the sacrifices they have made for our freedom.
Thanks to excellent books like Patrick O'Donnell's We Were One and David Bellavia's House to House, we have learned about the battle of Fallujah and the living nightmare our soldiers endured in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq in the month of November, 2004. These books have made us more aware of why our veterans quietly suffer. Our hearts go out to them, not only on Veterans Day, but every day.
To those of you who fought in the battle of Fallujah, may God bless you and watch over you.
We promise to remember.
